Valkyries or “choosers of the slain” derive from Norse mythology and decide who will die in battle. They must then guide the newly fallen to Valhalla.
Valkyries are gorgeous women with blond hair and big beautiful blues, garbed in shimmering armor and are winged in certain tales. They are seen by some as daughters of royalty or lovers of heroes and they are often accompanied by ravens. If one sees a Valkyrie before battle, they will surely die.
It is said that any maiden who becomes a Valkyrie will remain immortal and invulnerable as long as they obey the gods and remain virginal. There are said to be from 16 Valkyries and it is as possible to become a Valkyrie as it is to get into the Roxbury on saturday night.
When a valkyrie chooses a warrior she dubs worthy, she will lead the new Einherjar (Any daisy-pushing-hero that is chosen by a Valkyrie becomes an Einherjar, a future competitor in Rognarök) to Valhalla, or “the hall of the slain”. Once there, the new Einhejar begins training for Rognarök, and the Valkyrie serves him mead when he tires. I think any Valkyrie will agree when I say “It’s a living.”
